Just wanted to use this huge Hero Arts owl stamp and this pretty paper. I also wanted to try the Tim Holtz fragments. You will notice it on the top right hand side. It's the oval shape dangling from the brad. I glued a scrap piece of the designer paper behind it and there you have it. A lovely matching embellishment. I really loved using the fragments. These photos seem a little flat compared to the card in person. His birthday and mine are exactly a week apart. I think it may have been a little too young for him but I couldn't help myself. Isn't he a cutie!!!!</div><div><br />I just love that little snail brad on the tree limb. It's a little hard to see in the photo but I used the happy birthday Cuttlebug embossing folder on the blue paper so it should read Happy Birthday 2 you....get it??? Awww come on... you get it. This is my first time trying one. I have a ton of <a href="http://www.unitystampco.com/">Unity</a> stamps and love, love, love them. You can see the previous post for another card made with Unity stamps. The <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">challenge</span> was to use the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">colors</span>, red, blue &amp; green and here's what i came up <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">with</span> using their Bevy of Butterflies stamp set. I was so excited to use my new sewing machine on this project and I really like how it looks on the card. I used Maya Road chipboard trees which I painted with Adirondack dabbers, <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">SU</span> craft stock for the background and paper from <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">DCWV</span> Green Stack which I <span style="color:#ff6666;">love</span>, <span style="color:#ff0000;">love</span>, <span style="color:#cc0000;">love</span>. I love it so much <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">in fact</span>, I didn't want to use it. I just wanted to <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">preserve</span> it intact for all eternity <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">LOL</span>. Okay that's a bit much but you get my drift. There are certain papers that I just fall in love with and I don't dare use them. It's weird I know but not that uncommon. I will make up for that by posting more often during the summer (I hope...). Now that the apology is out of the way and you have graciously accepted it, lets move on to something fun. </div><br /><div></div><br /><div>A friend of mine (<span style="color:#ff0000;">Hi <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Salima</span>!</span>) organized a little <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">cardlings</span> swap. What are <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">cardlings</span> also called <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">scraplings</span> you ask? Well I'll tell you. They are little <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">itty</span> bitty cards made from the scraps that are left over when you make an A2 sized card from an 8 1/2 X 11 piece of <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">cardstock</span>. I have also heard the term <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">scraplings</span> used for this. They can be used as bookmarks or little <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7">gift cards</span>. Of course you would have to make your own customized envelope. </div><div> </div><div>This was a fun project and a little challenging to work on such a small scale. I did a nature theme for mine which included (drumroll please........) owls! These are 4.25" by 1.5" when folded. I'm sure I will post many more of these little books because I adore them and bought quite a few. These naked chipboard books are great because you start with a blank canvas and you can really get creative. Their also great to capture an event such as a birthday or event when you don't want to do a full scrapbook.</div><div> </div><div>I used Me &amp; My Big Ideas specialty <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">cardstock</span> for the front &amp; back cover. It's a really thick and beautiful textured <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">cardstock</span>. I don't think you can tell from the pictures but the brown portions are velvet. The papers for the inside are from My Mind's Eye Bohemia stack and I choose them to coordinate with the colors from the cover of the book. A good friend, (<em><span style="color:#33ccff;">Hi Franklin!</span></em>) suggested I show a photo of the book itself before I embellished it. So here it is! I think so, let's move on.<br /></div><div align="left"><br />This post is in honor of a new friend who so graciously invited a bunch of scrappers to her home and lived to tell the tale. I am speaking of no other than our own Ms. Ini Capini!!! We scrapped on Sunday afternoon at Ini's home, ate, laughed and I even made a card. Well a half of a card I actually finished it at home. Ini's theme for the get together was vintage valentine's day cards. I don't know how vintage my card is. It was supposed to be for her birthday which was in November but of course I am way late and finally finished it New Year's day. The colors in her room are plums, lavenders and pinks so I incorporated those in the papers and embellishments I chose. I hope it matches her room. I really like how it turned out. I hope her mom thinks it was worth the wait LOL.<br /></div><br /><div>I bought a shadow box frame so that I could make the name and embelishments 3D. The frame is matted to 11 x 14 size. I also made a smaller one which was matted to 5 x 7. My favorite holiday and time of year. It's cold out and you get to be all bundle up in sweaters, scraves, hats and boots. Plus and this a big plus you get time off from work. I love it!!! I am sooooo a winter person. Anyway, I digress. So as you may or may not know my latest obsession in the crafting world is owls. I {heart} owls. My friend Salima isw sick and tired of them and I think that's my fault he he. So where was I, oh yes owls. Well in light of my owl craze I decided to make my first ever handmade christmas cards with ......you guessed it owls!!!!</div><br /><div>I stamped out the owl from Cornish Hertiage Farms, Kim Hughes owl rubber stamp set. I'm a big fan of Kin Hughes whimisical stamps. I colored in the owls with Kohi Nor pencils and gamasol, stickle the santa hat and added white applique for the fur. I also used American Crafts cardstock, Martha Stewart snowflake punch, holly branch is from Cricut's Joys of the Season cartridge, red buttons, gossy accents used on owls beak and toes, charms from Oriental trading and embossed the red paper at the top with my trusty Cuttlebug. Woo Hoo! She is growing so fast and so sassy. She loves princess' so of course I had to make her a princess dress card for her birthday. I cut the dress with the cricut from Paper Dolls cartridge using DCWV glitter acrdstock. The glitter doesn't show up to well in the photos. After I made it I thought a dress shaped card would have been better but I was too tired to do another card. Oh well, next time! We were to make 20 bookmarks, send them to the swap creator and she inturn would send you back 20 different bookmarks, one from each person in the group. It was a fun project and I'm indebted to my cricut for allowing me to cut 20 shapes of whatever I wanted. The owl and butterfly bookmarks are what I made (you know I had to include an owl) and the pictures with the assortment of bookmarks is what I receieved in return. Well I'll tell you. I wanted to make a scrapbook for my brother's wife Ahira. I have no children and so theirs feel like my own. Love em to pieces and I wanted to create a scrapbook they could have as a keepsake. The first page was a family tree with their names and I made a double page layouts for each member of the family. I have only posted a few of the layouts here. The scrapbook ends with a layout of the entire family. I did not yet have a cricut so no cricut is used. The main color theme of the scrapbook is brown. Well here it is, my first attempt at a scrapbook. (Yeah because a few classes have made me an expert....riiiiiiight). So my friend Marisol and I were planning her daughter Sophia's christening. Me (and my big mouth) suggested cookie bouquets for the table centerpieces. "Marisol it will be easy and so cute." Well it did turn out to be cute but not so easy. It was a labor of love (emphasis on the word <strong><em>labor</em></strong>). I have never worked so hard in my life. She and her family helped with the baking but of course being a neurotic virgo I had to do all the icing and decorating myself. Oh they tried to help but I would just say no thats ok I'll do it. Jeeeez I'm tired just thinking about those 2 days we spent on these cookies. We made 10 bouquets with 8 cookies in each. They came out great and the recipe was really tasty but lord it was time consuming.
