Hootie Hoot Hello

Hello World! How are you?
I have been very busy with work and school lately so I apologize for not posting. I am going to try to post at least once a month from now on. Let's see how that works out : )

Anyhoo, I'm sharing a couple of birthday and hello cards I made recently whose main images are owls(my fav!).

Thanks for stopping by!
Dee

The top card was made for no one in particular. Just wanted to use this huge Hero Arts owl stamp and this pretty paper. I also wanted to try the Tim Holtz fragments. You will notice it on the top right hand side. It's the oval shape dangling from the brad. I glued a scrap piece of the designer paper behind it and there you have it. A lovely matching embellishment. I really loved using the fragments. It was so easy.

These two similar z-fold cards were made for 2 of my dearest friends whose birthday is the same week. These photos seem a little flat compared to the card in person. I used lots of pop dots to add dimension and to secure the z-folds closed.

The last one was made for my nephew's 13th birthday. His birthday and mine are exactly a week apart. I think it may have been a little too young for him but I couldn't help myself. I still think he's 5 yrs old.
He called me after receiving the card and said "Hey your getting good at this card stuff." Isn't he a cutie!!!!

I just love that little snail brad on the tree limb. It's a little hard to see in the photo but I used the happy birthday Cuttlebug embossing folder on the blue paper so it should read Happy Birthday 2 you....get it??? Awww come on... you get it. Well he got it and that's what counts... he he he.

Hip Hop! Unity Color Challenge

It's Friday! Wait I think it needs more exclamation marks don't you? Let's try that again. It's Friday!!!!!!! There that's better don't you agree? Okay enough kidding around, let's get down to business.

Over at Splitcoaststampers, Unity hosts a challenge every Thursday for their Hip Hop (i.e. blog hop). This is my first time trying one. I have a ton of Unity stamps and love, love, love them. You can see the previous post for another card made with Unity stamps. The challenge was to use the colors, red, blue & green and here's what i came up with using their Bevy of Butterflies stamp set. By the way if you never visited the Splitcoaststampers site you really don't know what you're missing. It's a great resource for new techniques, ideas and anything stamping.

I adore the "dress form" stamp from Unity Stamp Co. April 2009 kit of the month. The tape measure is another stamp of theirs from the Baby's Journey set. I think they really went well together for this seamstress inspired card.

This weeks Chirper Challenge was to choose a sketch from http://www.scrapsketch.com/ and use stars and buttons which are favorite embellishments of our fearless design team leader Jackie Solomon. I chose sketch #139 pictured here. My take is a navy card with bright orange, green and blue. I used my new stamp set from Unity called Stylin' Stars. I really loved this challenge. Thanks Jackie!

An owl with glasses????

Yes! and she is adorable. Made this card for my friend a while ago who just loves animal prints hence the pink leopard print designer paper from DCWV. The stamp is from Pink Cat Studio's colored in with Prismacolor pencil and gamasol then a little bling with stickles and glossy accents. She's so funky and cute with her little vintage glasses don't you think???

Thanks for looking : ) Diana

Blog Awards

Thanks, Amy, for nominating my blog for this award! Amy is a member of the Chirper Challenge design team along with myself and a few other talented ladies. Amy is super creative so check out her blog for some inspiration.

I received this award quite a while ago I'm ashamed to say and just got around to posting my thanks.

The requirements to accepting the Honest Scrap Award are as follows.

A) I must thank the person who gave me the award and list their blog and link…
B) I must list 10 honest things about myself.
C) I must put a copy of the The Honest Scrap logo on my blog.
D) I must select at least 7 other worthy bloggers and list their links.

So without further ado, let's begin.

Thank You Bird Scrap aka Amy!!!! It's my first blog award and I don't know if you can tell but I'm super excited!!!! (count the exclamation marks if you don't believe me).

10 Honest things about myself:
1) I LUV coffee. I don't think I can go a day without it.

2) I love rainy days. Weird right? There's just something about a rainy day that makes me feel so warm inside and blessed.

3) I'm obsessed with buying scrapbooking supplies. It's a sickness.... for which I don't want a cure.

4) I enjoy living on my on right now. It's really peaceful and I can stay in my pj's all day : )

5) I adore my family, in particular my niece and nephews. They really bring joy to my life.

6) I love to cook but I'm not good at it. How's that for honesty!

7) I have dreams that I have not fulfilled but am optimistic that I will one day achieve them.

8) I hate my grays. Okay maybe hate is a strong word, let's go with "a deep dislike".

9) When I'm having a bad day I always think that there is someone else that is going through worse and it makes me feel guilty.

10) This is my favorite quote and I honestly feel like shouting it out sometimes:
~ I am aware that I am less than some people prefer me to be ... but most people are unaware that I am so much more than what they see ... ~

And now for the 7 worthy bloggers list. It's hard to just pick 7 when there are so many talented people but here goes:
